This paper introduces Neurodesign, a design framework for business information that aligns data representation with human cognitive processing abilities and limitations. The five key principles from cognitive science used in Neurodesign are: narrative style structure, to organize information in memorable and meaningful ways; using patterns in data representations, to encourage use of human’s pattern recognition abilities; cognitive load management, by presenting the data in manageable chunks to work with the limitations of working memory, emotional engagement, to improve memory formation; and contextual integration of new information with the existing knowledge. A case study in sales management demonstrates the application of neurodesign in transforming complex sales data into actionable narratives. Implementation of a neurodesign-based system resulted in an increase in decision-making speed, improvements in information retention, and increases in team productivity.
